How do I create a sales report by customer by item for the last 3 years?

A client has asked is it possible to do a sales report by customer by item for the last 3 years? I can only see this comparing it against 2 years.

This is a good question as we start to emerge from Covid-19. Some businesses may have seen a surge in sales while others lost business or lost customers, so it is time to focus on what the future may look like.  By looking at sales by Customer by Item over the past 3 years you will be able to compare back to sales pre-covid.

    There are two options available:

    1 Compare Sales Report

Comparison style reports can compare up to 8 columns of dates plus show a variance column for each pair. See: Compare - Awesome Date Comparison

    • Run the default Sales - Compare Sales by Customer favourite report.
    • Click on the Compare icon and select dates to compare
    • Select Variance  or no Variance to display
    • Change Analyse by Item to see Items in the Rows
    • Change Group by to Customer to add a subtotal by customer

    2 Pivot Style Sales Report

To compare similar time frames (all Years, All Quarters etc.) then another option would be to use the Pivot Type report. See Pivot - To see Multiple Dimensions at once.

    • Start with the Analyse Sales - Monthly - Pivot favourite report
    • Change the column dimension from Months to Sales by Year
    • Change the date range to "All" or enter dates to pick up as far back as you wish to report
    • This will line up all of the years across the page
    • Change Analyse by Item to see Items in the Rows
    • Change Group by to Customer to add a subtotal by customer
    • Change Display to select Qty sold, Total $ Sales or both

    3. Filter to Exclude

You may want to use the Filter option to exclude certain Item or Customer  sales that are not likely to be repeated. See Favourite Reports - Filters

Save your report to re-use over and over.
