HTML in emails and Email Body format

Bi4Cloud Enterprise version provides email scheduling  where one of more reports can be output to a list of email users or an address list can be setup and email directed to that list with content filtering. ie Email Bursting.

The format of the emailed report can be PDF, Excel generally and you will in some cases be offered a format called Email Body.

Email Body will put the report content in-line with the other content in the email and it's output is implemented using HTML. It is intended for simple reports to raise alerts or notifications. It in not intended for complex reports and is not supported for use cases of complex reports.

Below is a guideline of limitations for the use of email body. These limitations are for the most part due to the rendering on different email clients and are beyond the control of Bi4Cloud and are not supported. You can manage this by using PDF or XLS format for your complex reports and limiting Email Body format for simple reports.

  1. Many email servers will block emails that contain HTML or links to web pages
  2. Only standard reports. Option is not available for pivot or chart reports.
  3. Doesn't work with indented reports (and therefore not really with GL reports)
  4. For very long GL reports they are not clipped correctly. The rendering garbles the HTML content towards the end of the email and it attaches the full uncorrupted report as an attachment.
  5. For comparison reports with Bands/Heading the bands are stripped out.
  6. Locked fields don't lock in the email
  7. 'Expanded report for printing turned off' is ignored and all reports are sent in expanded format.
  8. 'Word Wrap' is ignored.
  9. Formatting Rules on metric not ignored and missing in the emailed reports.
  10. Show Total Off and Show Grand Total Off on Metrics are ignored in emailed in report.
  11. Modes on Metrics are ignored and are missing in emailed reports
  12. When outputting are report that has Quarter totals the Total line can appear before the last detail line of the quarter.
